I was of the perfect age to of been exposed to the world of George Lucas, the man who created the Star Wars universe, starting with A New Hope. Seeing that seminal film as a child stayed with me well into my adult life. And then as luck would have it, in 2013 I found myself working with a small team of artists to develop a new chapter in the Star Wars universe for JJ Abrams. Mind blown. Heading up the art department was Rick Carter and Darren Gilford and for several months we all did a deep dive into the lore and visual history of those first three classic space operas. As an art director, I also had the good fortune to travel to London and assist further with design and development of sets and ships. And finally seeing through and assisting in the look of the visual effects back in San Francisco as a VFX art director.
